As we approach the one year anniversary of NazNet.net next month, it is time to take inventory. This forum was set up to try to meet a need for NazNetters that liked this type of format over the idea of moving strictly to the Facebook format. Originally there seemed to be some excitement and while we have 70 members, the idea of NazNet.net really never took hold. A few of you have participated. However, there has not been enough to bring the traffic to this site to make it a destination for discussion. Personally, I prefer this format for discussion and would like to see it take off. However, I also understand the reality of Facebook. When I set this up I promised that I would not pull the plug like what happened on the old .com forum and that I would offer to transfer the administration off to anyone that wanted to keep it going. If anyone has any ideas to make NazNet.net a destination for discussion I would love to hear your ideas. I have not invested a whole lot into this site and the only on-going expense is the registration fees for the domain (NazNet.net). Most likely I will let the domain expire next month, unless there is some renewed interest in keeping it alive. The forum will still exist under the free domain name of NazNet.boards.net. Thanks for being part of the NazNet.net experiment.

Thanks for being part of the NazNet.net experiment. It's too bad that it didn't take off. I am one that doesn't like the format of naznet on FB [even if it were to be perfection in moderation, etc, it is a format that doesn't work for me]. Thus the sense of Nazarene community for me will never be the same again...oh well... But thank you for trying Kevin

UpdateI have decided to renew the NazNet.net url for another year. However, I have not renewed the ProBoards subscription that allows a custom url. What this means is that when you type naznet.net in your browser you will be redirected to naznet.boards.net. This forum will still be available but you may want to get used to using the naznet.boards.net name. If anyone has any ideas on how to bring this forum to life let me know.

I think it will be hard. The Facebook discussions have been really active. I've always struggled with forums from BBS to Facebook, but that's my personality.
When NazNet made the shift to Facebook it became so easy. It will take time. I just looked for the old NazNet on a whim today and found this forum. Part of the issue is that Facebook has transformed itself almost into a utility (and if it's not very careful, I could see it be regulated as such). As such, it is rooted in our lives and our interactions with our churches.
Patience is all I can say. I do think the over-reliance on Facebook is a serious issue, but that will work itself out. The younger generation (I have 3 teens) is not that enamored with Facebook (as Facebook itself knows), and communities such as this one I still think will be valuable for them.
One thing I would like to know is what happened to all the discussions that happened on the original board. The archive would be very valuable.

Also, ProBoards themselves (they want/need to sell their product) might also be a good resource for advice.

I set up this forum after the NazNet.com move to facebook because there seemed to be some interest in maintaining this type of board. There were none of the previous administrators involved with this and they actually saw this as a threat to their facebook pages. I even tried to suggest they could become admins of this site and was willing to add them. I really don't have the desire to invest too much time in administering this site, and hoped it could be used with little to no moderation. I am pretty active on facebook. However, I would much rather see discussions on this format and don't think facebook offers the same opportunity for meaningful discussion. The administrators of the old forum have a backup of the old board. However, they don't have any plans to make it available. It is a shame. There was a lot of time invested in meaningful discussion. I guess you could say there also was a lot of not so meaningful discussion as well, but I think this format works much better for weeding through the stuff you don't care about. I would love to have one place to go to for discussions with the Nazarene family. I'm tired of trying to follow all of the different Nazarene related facebook pages. I agree, the younger generation is not interested in facebook. They seem to see it as their parents thing.

I didn't realize that you had renewed it for another year. Cool I can't stand the FB format for Naznet so have pretty much dropped out of naznet.
