NazNet has a long history, going back to the 1980’s. Dave McClung, the long time host of NazNet, shared this message about his decision to shut down the old NazNet forum with plans to move the fellowship to Facebook:
So, as of August 1, 2017 the old NazNet forum hosted at naznet.com ceased to exist, taking with it access to all of the historical conversation records but not taking away the memories, relationships, and connections. Some have archived conversation threads that were important to them, but as of this post, there is no easy way to access them on-line.
While many will be active in the different Facebook groups, there was a feeling that the NazNet forum format serves the types of conversations NazNetters have come accustomed to more effectively.
On July 24, 2017, as more of just an experiment, a new NazNet forum was established using ProBoards.com free hosting services. There was immediate interest established from some of the long-time NazNet forum members.
The New NazNet forum (naznet.net) rose from the ashes to provide a place of community for members and friends of the Church of the Nazarene. The New NazNet was not created to take the place of, or compete with the NazNet Facebook groups; instead it was established to offer a format for deeper discussions, more like what we have experienced in the past with NazNet. This new forum is not affiliated with NazNet Facebook groups or the Church of the Nazarene denomination.
While NazNet is under new management and hosting, the purpose remains the same: "building community among Nazarenes and friends."

The Fellowship that we call "NazNet" started back in the 1980's as a forum on Prodigy. The officials at Prodigy didn't think we would have enough participation to have a forum of our own, so they named it "Evangelicals." We became the most active religious forum on Prodigy. Our fellowship continued to grow until Prodigy decided to charge by the minute.
The Fellowship divided into several smaller groups on Compuserve and other internet providers until the World Wide Web came along.
Soon after the World Wide Web became available, we opened NazNet.Com. We have changed software a couple of times, but the fellowship has remained on NazNet.Com for many years. During those peak years, we had a booth at the General Assembly and our numbers grew.
A few years ago, our fellowship began to shift from this site over to Facebook. There are a number of different Nazarene sponsored groups on Facebook, but one of them is NazNet on Facebook. The trend is clear, that group is growing while this group is becoming smaller and smaller. NazNet on Facebook now has more than 1,700 members!! Many of those who are members have been active participants here in the past.
I have come to the opinion that it is time to consolidate our fellowship on NazNet on Facebook. For some, the transition won't be easy, but it will be worth the effort.
