Facebook likes to suggest groups that I may be interested in. This one popped up today in my news feed: Walking In A Greater AnointingI find it interesting that there are over 2,100 members, it is a closed group and there is no description telling what the group is about. I have several facebook friends and other church members that are a part of the group. I thought about joining the group to see what it was all about then I saw that Debbie Bohi is the admin. I don't think she would accept my request. The only conclusion I can make from the admin and those that I recognize in the group is that it is a group involved in everything Charismatic, Pentecostal, signs and wonders, and NAR in general. Anyone have any insight on the type of discussions going on in this group?

Phrases like Greater Anointing, etc. alwaya seem suspect to me. Kind of like Gnosticism in that we know something you do not. That being said, I have no idea what the group is actually about...

My guess is it's a platform for Bohi's inspirational thoughts, but I'll never know. I don't want to be a part of it.

I just took a quick look and none of my friends are members, and I only know one person on it. I guess that's a good thing. I have no intention of joining it.

That's interesting. The "We have something more than you" stuff always makes me feel uneasy, but I hadn't thought of it in relationship with Gnosticism before. I get where you're coming from on that, though. Honestly, the way that holiness is sometimes taught (though it is getting less this way), makes me uneasy on the same grounds. On Derek Webb's (off and on again a part of Caedmon's Call) first solo album She Must and Shall Go Free, he had a song called Beloved. One of Webb's big beefs at the time was the way that Jabez's prayer was being taught, and more generally prosperity gospel stuff overall. He's a Calvinist (or at least he was; I haven't kept up with him much for several years), so he can certainly get a little too anti-works and PSA oriented for me from time to time. I have always found this line from this song compelling, though: Christ is our goal, and Christ is our reward. Every time we try to make it about something else or add to that, we come dangerously close to, if not fully within, idolatry. I wouldn't even say "heaven" or "eternal life" is our reward, except as recognized in the context that part of relationship with Christ includes eternal life. And, of course, that's how I think it is best to understand sanctification, too. It is not so much something beyond salvation as it is the natural development from relationship with Christ. Of course, I suppose the same could be said of the charismatic stuff. They might say, "A true relationship with Christ will result in the baptism of the Holy Spirit that brings speaking in tongues . . ." My issue is that they are putting the focus on those things rather than Christ. If those things do come about as a result of their relationship with Christ, great! Far be it from me to try to stifle them. But when their manifestation becomes their focus, then those things become idols. And with that thought, I'll close this post with this song, that I have made my personal theme song over the last several months:

I've found that many of the people in FB groups are lurkers or don't always agree with the group but want to know what's going on. I was the subject of the Concerned Nazarene group before Manny put out his hit piece on me and others. He allowed one reply but won't accept any more. But that's how cowards operate.
