I lost power for 23 hours ( No NazNet , boohoo) That was quite a session here . Nearly 24 hours without power .
We had what was later called a microburst about 3 PM Wednesday afternoon . The rain was pelting the windows and there were a few thunderclaps . Couldn’t have been even 10 minutes long and then the hydro went . I thought it’d be back soon so didn’t try to shut off the stair lift . So every 3 minutes I got to listen to 3 short bursts and 2 long bursts . It meant no more sleep for me .Had had about 2 and a half hours at that point . ( I sleep days )
Came down to phone Hydro to see what the time frame might be . I did but the area described that was to be back by 5: 43 PM didn’t include me . I was just outside it . Later on they said multiple problems due to inclement weather and the new time for restoration was noon Thursday . I phoned about every hour or so for the update and after midnight it was due to equipment failure and 5 PM Thursday being the time . Later in the morning it was back to inclement weather as the cause and still 5 . Later in the morning that changed to 4 and I actually got my power back just before 2 . Around 6 or 7 last night my bedroom alarm clock flickered on and I got hopeful but nothing else happened. It lasted barely a second . Then about 1 today my little fridge upstairs came on for a few seconds but it was nearly an hour after before power was restored . There sure wasn’t much I could do except read . And that by flashlight . Got the stair lift turned off so was able to grab a few hours here and there. And once power was restored today I came down early as there was so much I wanted to do and couldn’t last night .Going to the bathroom with a small flashlight and just about anything else . I lost one at one point but fortunately had bought more our first US trip this spring so had more . Hope it turns up . Not even sure what colour it was.
When I went back up early last evening after the first call , I decided to wash my hair and bathe while it was still daylight and was ever so glad I did .
One lady was hit by a 30 ft tree that split in half with the lightning but that was across town on the Ottawa General Hospital campus . Her heart stopped but she got help right away but I think she is still in serious condition if she is still alive . Another man lost an oak tree that was about 115 years old . He had 3 people check it this spring ( arborists ,I think ) and they assured it was fine . It was uprooted by the winds ( 168 to 180 km/h) Made me glad I got rid of that huge silver maple this spring . Took all my income tax refund , most of a very small savings and still had to borrow $ 1000. Apparently 9000 customers were involved and some still have no power . That makes me think that equipment was more the problem and not the weather though it caused the initial outage .

Wow! Glad everything's OK at your place now, Marg!
Guessing you may have lost some food in the fridge, though, after that long of time without power.

T the moment things seem to have stayed cold. Bit worried about the milk as I had 3 bags with 3 each in there . I only opened the fridge a couple times and quickly took things out and sorted outside and then put the rest back in . Time will tell. I get that much milk as once every 3 weeks I have help getting things in so get the heavier stuff that week, like milk and juice .Hard enough the weeks between anyway .

Would this be why Barbara Moulton was saying that she was without power for so long today?

Doubtful as she is so far away from me. I'd say about 350 miles . Even in our city ,only a small section, my area got it .Other areas got some but not like we did . Could be a different storm though . Anyway , being without power is a real bummer .
timing was good in one way . Didn't need the A/C that day nor the heat . Turned the heat on yesterday and its staying on now .

Yeah, we were to get snow this afternoon, but I didn't see any. And then at night It was predicted again. But I don't even wanna look outside and see that it probably happened.

We are stopped to get down to close to record cold for my area - 23 F or so.. which to me, isn't that very cold but at least it is cold, now, which is normal to me. None of this fluffy warmth in Nov for me.

Yeah, we know, Susan! 😝 But I didn't like that we were to have some record low temps, too, or already did. Didn't check to see if it actually happened. Just know it was horribly cold when I pushed myself out the door a couple of go ago to go somewhere. So for me, "Torture Time" season has begun. 😌

Meanwhile, I am thanking God that my torture time is coming to a close for a few months.
