I heard this statement recently: "Vulnerability is the only place where transformation happens."
Would you agree? Do you experience vulnerability; if so, to what extent, and in what settings? Does your faith community promote vulnerability; if so, to what extent?

We also talk a lot of about being a safe space where confidence is kept and gossip is addressed.

Having said this, I do agree that vulnerability is important. To remain silent about issues leads to isolation, and isolation leads to despair.

Richard Rohr has been quoted as saying that the contemplative mind can usually only be reached when someone experiences great grief or great joy. Both of those situations have a certain amount of vulnerability.

When I am vulnerable or safe around others, the real me comes out. And when the real me can come out safely, I can hear God say what needs to be changed so much easier.

There are some who, through a critical choice of words, don't really see the "real me" that people are, yet sure the repressed (by their very words/attitude!) version they see is all there is to those whom they highly affect.
