Have any of you read the Nashville Statement, and if so, what do you think about it? I've read it, and while I don't think it's as horrible as some people seem to think, I don't think it's necessary. I also believe it is in opposition to much of what we believe in as Nazarenes. I would never sign it. There were a couple of other statements written to counter it, but I wouldn't sign them either. Since we have the statement on Human Sexuality that was adopted at G.A., we don't need anything else. By the way, I wouldn't sign that statement either, and I'm glad that we are not required to do so. The reason I don't want to sign it is because I feel that my word as an ordained elder that I will upheld our doctrine and polity ought to be good enough.
Any thoughts?
(By the way, I wasn't sure if this should be under General Discussion or Theology, so feel free to move it if I posted it in the wrong place.)

My major issues with the Nashville Statement include the following.
It is put together by an extremly complementarian group and they sneak their view of male and female into the statement. The statement implies that recognizing that you are gay is a sin.The old choosing idea. The COTN has a supieor statement now. The statement attempts to draw a line between who is and is not a true Christian. They put the name of my city on it.

I'll defer to my response to it on Naz Think Tank: "How to put this.......as soon as I'm ready to swallow a rotten "bad theology" burrito simply because it has "evangelical talking point" sauce on top, then sure, I'll sign it....baby does not justify dirty theological bath water on this one, I'm afraid. I'll stick with my denominations statement. Scot McKnight puts it short, sweet, and to the point for me: www.patheos.com/blogs/jesuscreed/2017/08/30/response-nashville-statement/"

I'd say it come with too much theological baggage. Our newly adopted statement is way better than a list of affirmation/denial talking points. This statement has no room for nuance, and is big on complimentarianism. Is it as bad as some make it out to be? Probably not, but still has too many problems from our perspective.

I was encouraged by Susan Unger to just start responding and posting anything to stir the pot a bit here. Not unlike what Scott Cundiff did here and is now doing on FB.
